choiceThe real essence of choice – and thus the essence of freedom – is the deliberate choosing of this particular instance of reality by consciously choosing the thoughts that I focus on in the moment.
True freedom means not only awareness of having this choice at all times, but also employing that awareness and – guided by the unwavering truth in my heart – at times making the choice that appears more difficult. The “new” choice seems difficult because I haven’t made it before, which means that a new neural pathway must be created. The “old” choice seems easy because it’s the “beaten path” – the old neural pathway that’s been reinforced by years of making this choice, the process having become automatic and yielding the same old result.
